Challenging Treatment of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis during Pregnancy: A Case Report

Introduction: Globally, drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) still has a high number of cases. Pregnant women are one the high-risk populations for TB infection, especially multidrug resistance (MDR)/Rifampicin (RR) TB. Physiological differences in pregnant and safety fetus make drug treatment challenging. Case: A 20-year-old woman was 22 weeks while undergoing third month late phase short-regimen. Thus, Kanamycin her early combinations during first trimester pregnancy. After we consulted with other departments, obstetric department, decided not to change regimen. Her chief complaint before cough white sputum fluctuated shortness breath two months. The patient only experienced minor side effects phase. cured MDR on 8 October 2020 at 34 gestation. baby born 10 November 37 without congenital abnormality. Observation continued by pediatric department. last follow-up middle 2022 found no abnormality child’s growth development. Conclusion: Drug-resistant therapy requires collaboration multidisciplinary team consider benefits risks based gestational age disease severity.
